Update: Fabrication, Assembly, Production

November 2014

Thank you to all of our supporters for sticking with us, despite our delivery date moving from October into December. Who knew it would be so hard to find a machine shop that can fold sheet-metal without it being crooked.

The new plan has been to break the project into smaller chunks and to hire more specialized shops. We will have the linear rails done this week, and will have the sheet metal enclosures completed by next. In the meantime, I have decided to fabricate all of the extruder modules myself at my home metal shop. It is more work than I expected, but ensures that they all meet the quality required in the time allotted.

We are also having the CDRs of the MMM-DIY plans produced and will be shipping those out to those of you who contributed for that prize level.

On the software front, Ben and I have been running the Mini Metal Forge through its first full tests. He and I have matching MMM-DIY machines, and I will be sending a MMM-pro to him as soon as they are completed so we can continue our distance-development. Looking forward to having it all packaged up with an installer... to be continued.

This multi-faceted project is well on the way to finally being completed!
